Facebook

Jessie's Blue Sky

Early in the morning, we start off our journey from Kingfisher, Kota Kinabalu toward Kundasang for a night stay at Kiram Village @ Mesilau. Throughout the journey we will be passing by Tamparuli then to Kundasang. Travelling with family is the most memorable things to do in life, where your mum will prepare food and everything that needed during the journey. You'll only need to bring your clothes and some necessities. First stop @ Tamparuli, very crowded morning market, even on Wednesday morning. Unlike anywhere in Malaysia, the locals were really friendly to everyone, including us. Tamparuli is likely to be one favorite spot for tourists and local to stop by for some snacks and meal because it is located in the route from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. The town is also a convenient stop en route to the town of Kiulu, a popular whitewater rafting destination for domestic and foreign tourists alike.

Kundasang is a village in district of Ranau, Sabah, Borneo. This is where the majesty Mount Kinabalu lies. From here you can have spectacular view of the naked mountain with your eyes, and cool breeze of air. Before you reach the vegetable stalls, there is a place to stop by to take amazing landscape of the mountain even with your handphone. One shouldn't miss this place along their way to Kundasang. I wouldn't say Kundasang is similar to Cameron Highland, both of them have different elements, Cameron are more developed, in term of tourism and resources, and has better facilities than Kundasang. Where you still can sense the freshness and genuine living of a highland people here in Sabah.

Then, you can find your way to the Desa Cow Farm. This is a farm that breed cow and produce fresh milk everyday and distribute to the retailers in Sabah (Not available in West Malaysia due to the perishability of the product). I was happy enough to see Liyi get along well with my Mum and my niece.

This is a really good place to take pre- wedding photograph, with as little as RM100 per couple, you can take as many photos as you like! *Oh well, you need to have a good weather too!
I'm keen to start my venture and portfolio into Pre-Wedding photography. Im on my way looking for coolest and best spot for photography around Sabah, so far i would say Sabah would be a very good spot to shoot photo, as well as Honey Moon destination.

If you are interested to know more, or have any enquiry about package i can offer, do not hesitate to send me question at Basnojj12@gmail.com. Or call me @ 0166510595
A short drive from Desa farm, we arrived in our Chalet, "Kiram's Village". It is a beautiful place with many kind of flowers around all the chalets. Every single chalet have their own vegetable nickname. The one we stayed is call Cabbage house. It can accommodate up to 5person, with 3 single bed in ground floor, and one queen size bed on 1st floor. Of course, now you can cook because they provide kitchen facilities in the chalet! It is pretty affordable, RM200 for a chalet of 5person, RM40/Person/Night.

To book the Chalet, is very simple.
1. Browse through their website http://kirams-village.com/
2. Decide which room you want to get.
3. Call the number provided in their website.
4. Transfer/ Bank in the money to them.
5. Receive Confirmation and you're done!

If you want to have a relaxing time, to escape from urban pace, this is a place for you. Bring some simple cooking ingredient, and show your cooking skills!
And this is the time i used my Nikon D7000 and Nikon 35mm f1.8G intensively, from Kudat to Kota Kinabalu, and now in Kundasang! The color produced was a little flat, but the contrast was astonishing! Most of the photographs below were taken by this combination, except for the landscape, taken by Tamron 11-18mm f4.5-5.6. A very affordable wide angle lens for budget hobbyist like me, focusing was a little bit slow, but the image quality and sharpness is superb!
Sweet Bokeh!
There will always be rainbow after the rain, supposingly.
Throughout 2Years of study in University Malaysia Sabah, i did not bother to visit beautiful places around Sabah, not even staying in Kundasang for a night! With my mum's visit, i get the chance to explore Sabah with curiosity and passionate, *because i have to make the planning. Ever since their visit, i told myself not to miss any opportunity again to explore it before i leave this "Land Below The Wind".

Journey to Kundasang - Sabah Experience

Early in the morning, we start off our journey from Kingfisher, Kota Kinabalu toward Kundasang for a night stay at Kiram Village @ Mesilau....

Tuesday, 30 October 2012

The day begin by doing some grocery shopping @ Bundusan Wholesale Market. Things are relatively cheaper and fresher here. Vegetables are mostly come from Tambunan, Keningau, and also Kundasang. My mum and her friend really enjoy spending time in local market to check out their crops and fruits. According to my mum, almost everything here is cheaper than West Malaysia, and the quality is not bad too. The market located just right next to JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan) @ Bundusan, Penampang. It can be found easily, by remembering this landmark.

The Filipino Market is another landmark in Kota Kinabalu. Tourists come here for the affordable seafood and dinner, and the Local came here to do the daily grocery shopping. Biscuits, dried seafood become a must-bring-back things from Kota Kinabalu, because it's Made in Sabah. These stall keeper have to work long hour to survive their business, as the environment here is very competitive. However, don't let the wrinkles in their face fool you, Do Not forget to bargain for best deal. Its easily get rip off here too!

My mum and niece brought many joys to Kota Kinabalu. Its amazing to see how Qi En growing up from a baby until now, starting to speak one or two simple words to us. Although sometime she can be very naughty and irritating, she will still be the pearl in our eyes. These days, I really enjoyed showing them things around my daily life in Kota Kinabalu, a good place to stay, and to live. And the journey is still counting...

Today was another rainy day as the rest of the week, woken up by Liyi to have lunch together. Boring with Chicken Rice, Fried Rice, we decided to have some noodles @ 兴旺板面 located at Damai. I still remember Pan Mee is one of my favorite food in during my childhood. Whenever someone brings me to food court, i will order this. The chewiness of the flat noodle in your mouth makes me feel the satisfaction. Adding in fried onion, fried anchovies, and shredded pork, brings the combination of texture and taste.

This restaurant is always busy with customers. It have a very systematic ordering methods, you will have to order your food at the cashier, then they will pass you a number, then the food will serve shortly. Similar to 富源, besides you don't have to worry about your number, there will be someone to serve you. Chillies and Garlic are readily made at a corner, as well as the chopsticks and spoon.

This is my first appearance in this blog, with my face. Liyi said my skin is terrible, so i try fix it in Lightroom. So now i have good skin!

Food served within 10minutes, comes with Wanton (云吞), shredded pork (肉碎), and an egg. I would say that the flavor is more to sweetness, compare to Klang's, is overall richer in taste. The best damn thing about a good Noodle is they have to serve boiling hot, but when this was served, its not hot enough IMHO. Overall, i still enjoy my noodle here, because they have free flow of Chillies & Garlic, just have to take it yourself.

We had some noodles for our dinner as well. We had this Hamen (虾面)@ 大利茶餐室 located at Gaya Street. Just across Agro Bank. I'll strongly recommend people to visit this place as they really serve authentic Penang food, such as this. The Wan Tan Ho (滑蛋河)is very delicious too. But we were a little bit disappointed with the Fried Kuey Teow (炒粿条). Taste not that great, but better than many local hawker stall stating 正宗槟城炒粿条, the taste of the chilly paste (Sambal), is a plus to all their food. Big thumbs up.

If the photo of the food didn't appear to bring appetite to you, i apologize. Please bear with me, i'm in the process of learning food photography by myself. Constructive advise will be highly appreciate.

Me and Liyi were invited by Teddy and CW to have lunch @ Bella Italia Restaurant situated at Jesselton Hotel, Gaya street. Me and Liyi were very excited and we have high expectation toward the food that gonna be serve.

                   Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f2.8 ISO160

The restaurant is quiet, and relaxing. When we arrived, there were not many customers beside us. Jesselton hotel is a historical building. It is Kota Kinabalu’s city’s first post WWII modern hotel built at 69 Bond Street (now Gaya Street).  The name Jesselton Hotel referred to the town’s quaint timber and tin roofed Government Rest House, located on a bluff behind the city’s present Kota Kinabalu Police Station.

This is little bit explanation and acknowledgement about the deal. We bought groupon for the meal and it cost around RM40/ Person for 4-Course Meal included Main course ( Chicken RM50/Lamb Shoulder RM76), Appetizer (Greek Salad RM36), Soup (Creamy Lentil Soup RM24), Dessert ( Mango Crepe RM16), and Drink (Iced Lemon Tea RM13).

After everyone have arrived, Creamy Lentil Soup were served. It doesn't taste like mushroom soup or cream soup, it has a distinct texture as there were blended tea leaf in the soup. Frankly, we don't enjoy the soup, neither of us do.

          Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f2.2 ISO400
Later, the greek salad was serve to us, the main course and salad is shared among 2 person, and i weren't satisfy with this because it never stated it only come in 1 set, instead of 2. If you have time, compare the picture provided by them on the salad, and the actual picture of Greek Salad taken by me.
You can hardly find cheese on top of the salad when it serve. Pictures tell the story.
*This salad cost RM36? you judge.

          Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f2.2 ISO400
Here comes the worst thing, some part of the lamb is not cooked, not even medium. It looked like raw meat when you see them in the fresh market. Red in color, and you notice blood in the meat. Worst of all, you chew them before you notice, and once you notice, you don't know whether to eat it or spit it out. Eww.. The taste, So so, i'd say "Satay Kambing" @ Tanjung Lipat taste much much better than this.
          Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f1.8 ISO400
Interestingly, the chicken taste good, beyond my expectation after the experience with the lamb shoulder. Only the portion is too small for 2pax, as you might see the mashed potatoes filled up half of the plate and the proportion of chicken is so tiny.

                    Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f2.5 ISO400
Mango Crepe! Some says sweet, some says sour. I have no idea, i just want to finish them all and get out of the restaurant. Obviously, I'm dissatisfied with the deal, and i strongly not recommend any of my friends for this deal. Looking at the price, the quality of the food, totally no deal.

         Panasonic Lumix GF1 + Lumix 20mm f1.7 @ f2.5 ISO400

In Sum, Bella restaurant have good environment for dining experience, the staff were helpful as well, the only thing that bother me is the quality of the food doesn't match the price tag. I would not bother to pay more for good food and good service, but Bella restaurant is still not up to the expectation.
