1st December 2012, i have organized a beach cleaning project at Tanjung Lipat beach with the name of University Malaysia Sabah. This project also aim to collect trash effectively and to maintain beautiful and safe beaches in this "Land Below the Wind".

This place is less favorite by the public because it doesn't have good facilities for BBQ, and not even have a toilet. Thus it became more and more polluted since nobody visit there and the government didn't conserve this beach. It is so sad to see the beach is full of plastic bags, the trashes did not left on the surface, instead it got buried into the sand. Which mean it is already here for long period of time already. We believe that the plastic bag doesn't come from the beach, it is actually rubbish from the river, and also from another island.

All photos were taken with Nikon D80/ D7000 with Nikon 18-200mm VR, Nikon 35mm f1.8, and Tamron 11-18mm.
Photos credit goes to our official photographer, Mr Seah Chia Yee, visit his Facebook to see more of his work and portfolio!
Can imagine this is the beach of KK city?
A group photo before we start our cleaning work!
With more than a week preparation, i created this project and urge the public and also UMS students to join this program by raising awareness. Maybe the effort is not enough, me and my group member only manage to find 40people to join this activity. Special Thanks to Liza - my house lady who helped to prepare sandwiches and promote this project to her brothers and sisters from the church. It will not be so successful without her commitment!
Our brothers from the States did not hesitate to help this project out!
We started the activity by giving a simple briefing about the aim and objectives of this project, followed by distributing refreshment and drinks. Then we give every participants gloves and plastic bag to collect the trashes. We started approximately at 0830, sooner or later other participants arrive to the place too!
Everyone have been very participative throughout the project, we chat, and spend good time together doing something meaningful.

It is really sad to see this beach surrounded by countless pieces of rubbish, no one really bother about this beach. The pollution will not only affect marine life such as turtle, it also dangerously affecting tourism in Kota Kinabalu. If the beach is so dirty, tourists will have bad perception toward KK beaches, through word of mouth, no one will like to visit to our country in the future! The government should really do something about this!

After 2 and a half hours of cleaning work, the weather got really warm and we have to stop working on it. We felt so relief and proud to see how much rubbish we have collected, more than 10Bags of rubbish weighted more than 100KGs have been collected throughout this activity! We work hard under the hot sun and we felt satisfied with our contribution. Nothing beats the determination of the participants, they wanted to continue but i promised them that we will have second round of beach cleaning in near future, then only they stop!

Gathering all the trashes.
i can't even carry a bag of trashes, its sooo heavy!

After weeks of preparation from our beloved class representative, Ms Wendy Pang, today we visited See Hua Daily News (诗华日报) factory. This visit aim to explore and study the company's distribution strategy and distribution channel. 2 buses departed from UMS campus to Kolompong, where the factory situated. It was a short and smooth journey, only took us 20minutes perhaps? Marketing students never be this participative before, not even in class, i'm happy to see the attendance performance today! (Even though I know some of them were forced to join) Dr Amran was here to join us for the visit, very sporting too!
Even though it's a very short journey, some people will never forget to recharge energy in the bus!
They seem so excited to visit the factory already!
The photogenic bunch of people!
The arrival of our beloved Dr Amran, thanks for joining us!
As a faithful Muslim, we have to pray to appreciate good things fall on us.
After the briefing, all of us gather for a group photo before we divide into 2 groups to visit different location that serve different function of the factory. The first division visited the internal factory with lots of printing machine and also storage for the printing material. At the same time, the second division listen to Mr. Wong's explanation about the machines and also answering questions regarding to our course work. The size of the factory is not huge, but it is more than enough to cater Sabah market. See Hua Daily news (Chinese) is one of the joint brand with Utusan Borneo (Malay), and The Borneo Post (English). However, their priority is See Hua, because of the higher sales and demand.

The major profit for newspaper company like See Hua is not really rely on the income from the sales of newspapers, instead, is the advertisement fees that placed ads on their newspapers. Essential to marketing students like us to learn about boosting advertisement sales. Distribution of more than 20,000 Newspapers a day is not an easy task, but they deal it their own ways. In sum, the visit is clean and simple, and fun of course! We should spend more time together before we leave far apart, by organize more activities for everyone of us! We should be like a family, helping each other during difficulties (Not including during exams), build a strong bond between all of us!
